UP SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTIVITY SYSTEM RESULTS, 2015-2017

UPLB has new UP Scientists




The UP Board of Regents has appointed twelve UPLB faculty members as new UP Scientists at its 1317th meeting on April 28, 2016.

New Appointments

Awarded the UP Scientist I title are Dr. Bing Baltazar C. Brillo of the College of Public Affairs and Development (CPAf); Dr. Wilma A. Huratada  of the Institue of Human Nutrition and Food of the College of Human Ecology; Dr. Celia DR. Medina and Dr. Luis Rey Velasco, both from the Crop Protection Cluster of the College of Agriculture (CA-CPC) and Nathaniel C. Bantayan from the College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR).

Dr. Dennis V. Umali of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Jose M. Yorobe, Jr. of the College of Economics and Management and Dr. Carmelita M. Rebancos and Dr. Decibel Faustino-Eslava, both from the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM), have also been appointed as UP Scientist I.

Meanwhile, appointed as UP Scientist II are Dr. Felino P. Lansigan of the Institute of Statistics-College of Arts and Sciences (CAS-INSTAT), Dr. Ramon A. Razal of CFNR and Dr. Agnes C. Rola  of CPAf.

Renewed Appointments

On the other hand, five faculty members have also been renewed as UP Scientists, while three have been promoted.

Dr. Marvin A . Albao of the CAS-Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics and Dr. Josefina T. Dizon of CPAf retained their titles as UP Scientist I. Dr. Wilfredo Carandang of CFNR on the other hand, retained his ranking as UP Scientist II.

Dr. Pompe C. Sta Cruz of the CA-Crop Science Cluster (CA-CSC) and Dr. Jezie A. Acorda  of CVM have been renewed as UP Scientist III.

Dr. Francisco B. Elegado of the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH), Dr. Teodoro C. Mendoza of CA-CSC and Dr. Renato SA. Vega of CA-Animal and Dairy Sciences Cluster were promoted to UP Scientist II.

Existing Appointments

At present, UPLB has a total of 46 who have been awarded as UP Scientists.

In 2014, the UP Scientist I title was conferred to Dr. Rowena dT. Baconguis and Dr. Maria Ana T. Quimbo of CPAf, Dr. Orville L. Bondoc, Dr. Barbara Caoili and Dr. Pablito M. Magdalita of CA, Dr. Merlyn S. Mendioro, Dr. Ma. Genaleen Q. Diaz, Dr. Aimee Lyn Barrion-Dupo, Dr. Vachel Gay V. Paller and Dr. Pablo P. Ocampo, all of CAS-Institute of Biological Sciences, Dr. Nelson M. Pampolina and Dr. Edwino S. Fernando of CFNR,  and Dr. Maria Victoria O. Espaldon and Dr. Leonardo M. Florece of SESAM.

In the same year, Dr. Virginia R. Ocampo of CA-CPC, Dr. Menandro N. Acda and Dr. Nestor T. Baguinon of CFNR and Dr. Virginia C. Cuevas and Dr. Juan Carlos T. Gonzalez of CAS-IBS were appointed UP Scientist II; while Dr. Christian Joseph R.  Cumagun of CA-CPC, Dr. Ireneo Lit, Jr. of CAS-IBS and Dr. Juan M. Pulhin of CFNR were appointed as UP Scientist III.

A year later, Dr. Damasa M. Macandog of CAS-IBS and Dr. Victor B. Ella of the Institute of Agricultural Engineering-College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology were awarded as UP Scientist I and UP Scientist II, respectively. The title UP Scientist III was also conferred to Dr. Inocencio Buot, Jr. of CAS-IBS and Dr. Rex Victor O. Cruz of CFNR.

The new UP Scientists appointments are valid from CY 2015-2017; meanwhile the effectivity of renewed appointments is valid for CY 2016-2018. During these periods, the appointed faculty members will receive a monthly monetary award unless they are earlier separated from their service.

The UP SPS was established by the UP Board of Regents in August 2005 to support the development of science and technology and to encourage and reward scientific productivity. Faculty members are evaluated based on their publications in refereed reputable journals and books. (Jessa Jael S. Arana)
